Welcome to FakeMemorySentinel. On our Notice Board we present the lastest flash memory threats to consumers. We warn people about dangerous internet sites for usb flash drives, mp players and memory cards. To learn more about us and our mandate read: About.
eBay sellers for flash memory need a awake up call. eBay makes it clear, the seller is solely responsible for the listing(s). If they sell false capacity, a “No Returns” in a listing or claiming “defective” will not get them far. eBay is suspending sellers as soon as buyers report in with evidence. eBay sellers who sold brand name items proven to be fake or counterfeit are in double jeopardy. From eBay who will freeze their id and from the brand name company who may take legal action against them. It matters little if the seller was registered in an Asian country, North America or Europe the consequences are the same.
FakeMemorySentinel serves as a historical archive for listings on eBay and internet sites. Anyone who researches the issue and the harm fake flash memory chips inflict will understand why it is important to preserve, record and provide a permanent internet record, a record that does not disappear. Evidence is exactly that, evidence on a Global scale.
We thank honest eBay sellers of true flash memory capacity, they are among the strongest supporters of the FrankenFlash project and welcome the challenge to all eBay flash memory sellers.
Be advised there is an upsurge in eBay sellers who have sold fake capacity claiming flash memory chips are defective. True flash memory is manufactured and tested to the highest possible standards, defects are almost non-existent and this is the reason for the price.
Brand names have serial numbers on their flash memory items to fight against counterfeiting and fake capacity. Validate with the brand name manufacturer. eBay sellers claiming defective to buyers, contact the brand name manufacturer and have them contact SOSFakeFlash with a confirmation of defect and the RMA. All brand names will be happy to oblige you, they are supportive of authorized resellers as they are of buyers. If you purchased from an Asian wholesale site, in contacting the brand name you will discover if your source was geniune or not, do not attempt to have buyers subsidize your financial loss or your mistake.
SOSFakeFlash announced a zero tolerance policy in June 2009. There was no choice, given the number of eBay buyers who were becoming victims of fake flash memory purchases. FakeMemorySentinel only issues warnings, should a seller be posted at SOSFakeFlash, it is a confirmation! Should your eBay seller sell you a fake capacity or a counterfeit, you should alert other buyers immediately with negative feedback or follow up feedback. Should your eBay seller have sold you real capacity, mention your testing with H2testw, invite other eBay members to contact you and share your praise. Help everyone to discover who the true flash memory sellers are on eBay.
Do not revise your feedback if you purchased a fake. Do not allow a seller to be rude to you or attempt to blackmail you to receive a refund, it is against eBay rules – report the seller and forward email communications immediately to eBay.
As the exposure of fake flash memory increases on eBay, more sellers are using multiple ids to minimize detection and spread their potential loss. Addressing information sent to SOSFakeFlash helps to detect this practice.
There has been a recent surge in novelty usb flash drive fakes. A good example:
